School Reopening Update
Clem Lee, ABLE Superintendent
REVISED August 13, 2020
Governor Newsom announced that schools in San Joaquin County may reopen with students and staff on site when the county has been removed from the COVID-19 Watch List for fourteen (14) days.
The watch list is maintained by the California Department of Public Health and is reviewed and updated regularly in consultation with the San Joaquin County Department of Public Health. San Joaquin County has been on the list since June 13. San Joaquin County Public Health Officer Maggie Park has repeatedly reported that SJC, while slowing its spread of COVID-19, is far from meeting the required benchmarks to allow schools to reopen anytime soon.
While we will have a plan for transitioning to traditional learning when the time comes, all signs lead us to expect to be in distance learning through the first semester at the very least.
THE FIRST DAY OF DISTANCE LEARNING
School starts on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, the day after Labor Day.
Staff is finalizing distance learning plans for the start of school. We have enhanced the school curriculum with programs and resources that promote student achievement while meeting students’ individual needs.
With time to plan, our expectations are, and should be, much higher than they were in the spring when school closure was thrust upon us unexpectedly. Our entire ABLE family IS ready to achieve this coming school year!
By August 19, ABLE families may expect
a description of the distance learning model including the daily schedule for each grade span (elementary, middle school, and high school),
a clear description of the roles and responsibilities of all ABLE stakeholders (students, parents, teachers, support staff),
COVID-19 screening procedures for visitors to campus,
dates and procedures for picking up computers and school materials and supplies,
school breakfast and lunch procedures,
procedures related to student and family support beyond the distance “classroom”,
when class lists and student schedules will be posted,
information regarding support for students with special needs, and
all other relevant information families will need for the start of school.
THE ABLE WEBPAGE
My regular message will still be available on the homepage with a mere click, but it will no longer BE the homepage which has been redesigned to offer an array of information, contacts, and services for ABLE Families. Look for the new look soon.
